Guest star Amy Poehler mentioned the pork shop but sadly made no mention of Cole Valley.
Are you out of the loop of what happened to Bacon Bacon and why they closed, read the full story via the SF Examiner
"now a popular pork-focused restaurant in the Upper Haight must close its doors Friday following months of failed negotiations with neighbors over neighborhood concerns about porcine aroma and grease disposal."

<![CDATA[UPDATE: InoVino to open in old hama-ko location JULY 2013]]>Sat, 04 May 2013 03:03:10 GMThttp://www.colevalleysf.com/1/post/2013/05/new-italian-wine-bar-to-open-in-old-hama-ko-location.htmlPicture
Thanks to @olidreamer, we got tipped off that there might be an Italian restaurant and wine bar moving into the old Hama-Ko location on Carl Street. Hama-Ko, a delicious hole-in-the-wall sushi restaurant, closed it's doors fall 2012 and it has been vacant ever since. Recently, we saw some parchment paper go up on the windows which is a good sign that someone has rented it out and is starting to do construction. Hard to imagine how a new restaurant would look because it is such a small space. If anyone has any other information about what might this storefront be (more specifics), please mention us on Twitter, use the #colevalley, and let us know!

UPDATE: We now have gotten confirmation that there will indeed be a new Italian wine bar opening into the old Hama-Ko location on Carl Street. Perbacco's long-time wine director, Claudio Villani, is going off on his own to open a “contemporary enoteca” called InoVino. The small 30-seat spot will be going into 108 Carl Street —right across the street from the now ridiculously popular Padrecito. Villani says his inspiration for the business comes from this friendly, well-known Florentine panini spot called ‘ino. Villani is going to offer wines from all over the world (Greece, Spain, South America, Italy, France). The price of bottles will range from $25 to $65, and there will be at least 30 wines by the glass for $8 to $15. The menu will consist mostly of cheeses and charcuterie from local and international producers, along with crostini, bruschette, and crudo. Villani will spend next month in Italy for some more inspiration. He plans to open InoVino in July.

<![CDATA[GG park To Create Community Garden]]>Mon, 29 Apr 2013 15:37:23 GMThttp://www.colevalleysf.com/1/post/2013/04/gg-park-to-create-community-garden.htmlPicture
To meet the need for more community garden plots and to advance the Mayor’s Executive Directive on Healthy and Sustainable Food, the Recreation and Park Department is proposing to construct at least 40 new garden plots, gardening material supply bins and a tool lending library at 780 Frederick Street.

The 0.66-acre site is situated at the northwest corner of Frederick/Arguello Streets. The site has the potential to host a total of more than 120 plots and/or other garden and agricultural features. Future development phases at the site will be presented to this Commission once additional funding is identified and community input obtained regarding desired programming features. The site is readily accessible via the MUNI ‘N’ and #71 lines that service the area.

In addition to approximately 40 community garden plots, the Recreation and Park Department is proposing to make available common landscape materials (mulch, chips and fines) stocked in holding bins and a gardening-tool lending library – both unique public resources currently not available in San Francisco).

The Recreation and Park Department shall emphasis environmentally sustainable practices at the site in its design and programmatic and operating features, including a native plant nursery as part of the materials distribution component. Surplus produce from garden plots would be given away to food bank and/or food pantries.

<![CDATA[Ice Cream Bar Proposes Parklet in Cole Valley]]>Tue, 23 Apr 2013 15:44:06 GMThttp://www.colevalleysf.com/1/post/2013/04/ice-cream-bar-proposes-parklet-in-cole-valley.htmlThe Ice Cream Bar and Soda Fountain in Cole Valley has proposed a parklet!! What are your thoughts? Do you think it's a great idea, considering that The Ice Cream Bar has limited indoor seating and it would help create more business for them? Or do you think that Cole Valley is already tight on parking spaces that taking another 2 parking spaces (remember when SFMTA took a bunch on Carl Street due to N Judah Rail Replacement/Improvement Project??), that CV neighbors desperately need.

On Nextdoor, Ted Loewenberg from the Haight Ashbury Improvement Association invites you to write to DPW with your thoughts. He also invites you to CC him at tedlsf[at]sbcglobal[dot]net so he can provide feedback to the ICB.

<![CDATA[BUENA VISTA PARK VOLUNTEER DAY!]]>Fri, 05 Apr 2013 20:50:55 GMThttp://www.colevalleysf.com/1/post/2013/04/buena-vista-park-volunteer-day.htmlThanks to Buena Vista Neighborhood News' monthly e-newsletter, we found out about some great events happening around the neighborhood, specifically the MONTHLY BUENA VISTA PARK VOLUNTEER DAY!

BVNA's next Monthly Volunteer Day in Buena Vista Park is THIS SATURDAY, April 4 from 9:00am until noon - rain or shine (unless monsoon rain, or very heavy wind).

Here's the details:
We'll start at the Children's Playground above Buena Vista West at Waller Street, with the latest neighborhood news and warm and tasty refreshments (thanks to a generous BVNA Member!). Then you'll have your choice of working with the BVPark gardening staff on maintenance and weeding (trust us - it's fantastic aggression therapy!!) along the popular "new" boardwalk on the SE Hillside, or with the Natural Areas team doing maintenance in the Native California Oak Woodlands above Haight Street. We provide all the needed gloves and tools; you please wear sturdy shoes. This is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors and other BVPark supporters, and to help our Park. Perfect for all ages, all levels of agility, ability and gardening skill, and (especially!) for younger kids with adult supervision.

We hope you'll join us! - this our next-to-last Monthly Volunteer Day for the season. We take a break from June thru August and resume in September. During the summer the Park's gardening staff will be hard at work with extra staff colleagues, and with earn-and-learn students from Enterprise for High School Students (EHSS) - see below - on renovation and major maintenance projects.

<![CDATA[#SaveSutro]]>Tue, 19 Mar 2013 02:38:39 GMThttp://www.colevalleysf.com/1/post/2013/03/savesutro.htmlPicture
UCSF plans to remove 60% of the non-native eucalyptus trees in Sutro Forest. The university has proposed the plan, with a detailed environmental impact report that is intended to improve the forest and decrease fire risk thinning out the trees. "We're developing a management plan to keep the forest beautiful, accessible to the community and safe for both own own campus and our neighbors," said UCSF Director of Community Relations, Barbara Bagot-Lopez.

Many neighbors, activists, and environmentalist are outraged, citing that UC's plan would cause irreparable damage to the century old grove. The forest has thrived for so many decades due to its' microclimate as being cool and moist. The forest promotes fog and blocks the wind. Dr. Mascaro, a professional ecologist stated that, "by thinning the forest and removing most of the understory vegetation, the management activity will open the canopy of the forest resulting in drier and hotter duff on the forest floor and a greater risk of fire." If that's the case then why does UCSF think that removing trees will decrease fire risk if Dr. Mascaro has proven otherwise.

Sutro Forest is a lovely place to just get away from the city's hustle and bustle. This past weekend I went for a walk in Sutro Forest (up to Mt. Sutro via the Stanyan Gate and out the Edgewood Gate). I noticed tons of orange blogs of paint on some of the trees. Supposedly, these trees might have been tagged because they might be in poor condition and likely to fall or drop a limb. Along with the orange blobs came hand written notes that said, "Please don't cut me down...". The notes suggested contacting UCSF Campus Planning, Attention Diane Wong before March 19th 2013. All public comments on UCSF's Draft Environmental Impact Report are due by March 19th (tomorrow). Do you have comments about UCSF's plan?! Write to them (even if it's after March 19th), UCSF needs to know our side of the story.

Address your notes to Ms. Lori Yamauchi, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Campus Planning.

Drinks are agave-inspired with lots of margarita varieties.

<![CDATA[Padrecito coming soon!]]>Tue, 19 Feb 2013 17:40:45 GMThttp://www.colevalleysf.com/1/post/2013/02/padrecito-coming-soon.html
There have been some recent changes to the former EOS corner on Carl and Cole. In the last week, blue paint has been added and just a few days ago the sign was added, "Padrecito." No news when Mamacita's brother restaurant will open but looks like it might be soon! Watch this space for more updates on the new Mexican restaurant coming to our quaint little neighborhood.

In the mean time, check out Mamacita's (in the Marina on Chestnut) website. Supposedly it is the "Best Mexican in the San Francisco Bay Area." Sounds promising!

UPDATE (via SF GrubStreet)

Looks like Padrecito won't be opening in February but now they are pushing it to March. Padrecito will be a more refined version of their original restaurant, Mamacita. No news on what the menu will consist of but they have been able to secure their liquor license so there will be sure to be very delicious drinks!
