Recap: ColeValleySF's Happy Hour

4/12/2014

Comments

We had a great turn out and enthusiasm for our very first neighborhood happy hour. 15 minutes before the happy hour kicked off, there was already a group of folks waiting outside hoping to snag a Ice Cream Bar gift card (who had to say the pass code: SUNSET TUNNEL in order to redeem the freebie). Once the happy hour got rolling there was a lot of neighborly love, margarita drinking, taffy chewing, and schmoozing. Neighborhood celebrities, Greg Dewar (@njudah) and Rick from @colehardware, even managed to stop by! It was such a great time!

The happy hour couldn't have been possible without the huge support from Padrecito, Cole Hardware, The Fizzary, The Ice Cream Bar, and of course all those neighbors that came out to have it a great event. Thank you!!

We at ColeValleySF hope to host another happy hour or  neighborhood event sometime soon. If you have ideas about how to bring the neighborhood together, feel free to contact us or comment below.

New Parklet Proposed at AMERICAN Cyclery

American Cyclery, at Frederick and Stanyan, is rolling out plans for a parklet and adjacent green space.

American Cyclery, which makes claims to be the city’s oldest bike shop, is hosting a community meeting next Thursday, November 21 to unveil its plans for a parklet and green space next to the store’s 510 Frederick space. The meeting will be an open house in the store from 6 to 8 PM.

American Cyclery, with the blessings of Supervisor Breed and preliminary approval from the planning department, is planning to turn the odd triangle of pavement in front of the store into a parklet, and converting the adjacent paved parking lot into a green plaza..

The update, according to Bradley Woehl, of American Cyclery, would calm traffic at the intersection (presumably foot and bike). Woehl said the open house is intended to invite neighbors to provide input on the planning process and hear what the project will look like.

Want to get involved with CVIA (Cole Valley Improvement Association?), come to their meeting this Saturday!

CVIA is having their annual general meeting this Saturday at Kezar, and they’ll be joined by former San Francisco Mayor Art Agnos. On the agenda? The Warriors on the waterfront.

For anyone not up on Agnos’s politics, he’s anti-Warriors on the waterfront, although he does say he would like them to be in San Francisco. You can read his full response here, before he takes his show on the road.

The general meeting with be at Kezar Bar (Cole & Carl) from 1-4pm on Saturday the 24th, and there’s a $10 door charge. In addition to Agnos’s guest speech, CVIA will be electing new officers, talking Cole Valley Street Fair, and presenting some awards. There will be wine, beer, and appetizers, so Steve Schick & Co. ask for you to let them know if you plan to attend. Email CVIASF[at]aol[dot]com to RSVP.

Be there and get involved. That’s an order!

Ice Cream Bar Proposes Parklet in Cole Valley

4/23/2013

The Ice Cream Bar and Soda Fountain in Cole Valley has proposed a parklet!! What are your thoughts? Do you think it's a great idea, considering that The Ice Cream Bar has limited indoor seating and it would help create more business for them? Or do you think that Cole Valley is already tight on parking spaces that taking another 2 parking spaces (remember when SFMTA took a bunch on Carl Street due to N Judah Rail Replacement/Improvement Project??), that CV neighbors desperately need.

On Nextdoor, Ted Loewenberg from the Haight Ashbury Improvement Association invites you to write to DPW with your thoughts. He also invites you to CC him at tedlsf[at]sbcglobal[dot]net so he can provide feedback to the ICB.

ColeValleySF is a website dedicated to the Cole Valley neighborhood and its' residents. Here, we are a resource of information - everything Cole Valley (and sometimes a little bit Upper Haight and Inner Sunset).

The ColeValleySF Team is seeking volunteer writers! We want this blog to be the best it can be and need a few more cooks in the kitchen, if you know what we mean. We are looking for volunteers who have a good writing voice and are interested in writing about local neighborhood stories. Some story examples include:
  • spotlighting local businesses (new and old)
  • reporting for an event (i.e. Cole Valley Street Fair in September)
  • local news stories
  • photo walks and other adventures

All are welcome to apply, however we prefer those living in Cole Valley neighborhood, are good writers and have a general interest in Cole Valley and of course writing. We are looking for writers who can commit to a minimum 1-2 hours per month and maybe more if it works out.

So you want to apply? Awesome!! Please send us a writing sample (no academic papers please, a blog writing sample is just fine), any blog ideas you might have for ColeValleySF, and a little bit about yourself and why you want to write for us! Send all this to: colevalleysf.webmaster(at)gmail(dot)com.

Got more questions? Feel free to email us and ask us via email or tweet at us on Twitter (@colevalleysf).

Thanks for your interest and we'll get back to you soon!

Best,

The ColeValleySF Team

New Shop, Tantrum, opens in Cole Valley!

New quaint vintage children's store opens on Cole Street! The old shop, Occasions, recently went out of business and it seems like in no time, a new shop has taken shape. Quite amazing how speedy the change was; there must be a story behind that one!

Owners, Amanda Weld and Michelle Spear, offer a circus-type atmospshere with loads of vintage toys, clothing, and household items.

Hours are every day 11am-7pm.

Word on the street is that there will be a grand opening sometime soon, which we hope will bring must fun activities to the neighborhood. Hey, if the store is circus themed, we're thinking circus themed grand opening with clowns?! Who knows!

We want to welcome Tantrum to our lovely neighborhood and look forward to checking them out soon! We just love locally owned businesses coming to our mellow little oasis of the city! Best of luck!

For those of you who live here or have spent any amount of time in Cole Valley, you'll know that there's something different about it. It's not like any other San Francisco neighborhood.  So what exactly makes Cole Valley... well... Cole Valley?

Besides the obviousness of our strong business "district" and the uniqueness of our architecture, what else makes our neighborhood so unique?

ColeValleySF.com doesn't have the answer, so we reach out to you all... Tell us what Cole Valley means to you.
