COLEVALLEYSF SPOTLIGHT: BANDWAGON
I'm sure you have seen all the food trucks that have popped up around the Bay Area in the past several years. But have you seen a music truck? After years of working in event and music production, Cole Valley local Robert Culos dreamed of running his own music venue. Rob and his wife, Liz Coglianese, had the innovative idea of making a food truck but for music, a mobile music venue retrofitted out of a vintage trailer. With Rob managing event production and Liz handling marketing and publicity, their new business was born! BandWagon officially launched last August [2014] at Noise Pop's 20th Street Block Party with major success. Rob was excited that BandWagon launched in San Francisco and at a hyper local street fair. He stated, "The people here love music, they love to be outdoors and they're truly supportive of new ideas." Since BandWagon's launch they have been seen at major festivals, such as Hardly Strictly and Treasure Island Music Festival. BandWagon seems to be transforming the local Bay Area music scene in a new and innovative way and telling folks to get outdoors and listen to some good tunes!

So, where can I see BandWagon in action?

BandWagon will be starting to put on pop-up shows throughout the Bay Area. Rob said, "just like you'd find a food truck on the corner of 2nd and Harrison, our plan is to work with our large network of local and national artists to put on secret daytime events. Nothing is public, but we're hoping to see them again at the major festivals later this summer. Want to know where they will be next? Check out their website for specific details: www.bandwagonsf.com.

Picture
Can I rent it out for private events?

Rob informs us that BandWagon is available to rent for private parties, community gatherings, large festivals, corporate events, and beyond. Depending on the event, Rob, Liz, and team are happy to work with you to bring the entertainment or just have the stage, lights and sound. Got questions about rentals, you can contact them directly at thecrew@bandwagonsf.com or 415-742-5154.

So Rob, what do you guys like most about Cole Valley?

We hope you aren't forgetting that Rob and Liz, and their son Jack, are Cole Valley residents . They love everything about Cole Valley. Although they settled into Cole Valley almost by accident five years ago, they definitely plan to stick around. Rob said, "I think if I had to put it into simple words, it's the sense of a real village community here" that makes it the greatest place to live.

Hopefully we'll see BandWagon around the neighborhood, maybe even the Cole Valley Street Fair (pretty please!!).

Thanks to our lively group of neighbors on Cole Valley's Facebook Group, we got a pic of one of our CV parrots! The resident who snapped this great photo said that the parrots love this "scrappy messy tree" with sometimes having up to 20 parrots on this one tree! Pretty incredible.

UPDATE! NEW INVINO WINE BAR TO OPEN End of Aug/Early Sept!

Every time I pass by the new InVino restaurant, there's always something new going on whether its painting the outside or trying to sneak a peek through the parchment covered windows. Luckily, we got the inside scoop from Tablehopper!! It sure looks a lot different from the old Hama-Ko interior.

We got some new information thanks to an article on Tablehopper about the new Italian wine bar. Here's what you'll expect from food wise:

"But it’s not just a wine bar, no signore. This enoteca is going to have quite a number of delicioso things to eat, starting with an array of crudi, a variety of toppings on crostone and bruschette, and hello, three different presentations of mozzarella (all these items will be available as single items, or in flights for the ultimate in grazing). There will also be a couple of panini, and a choice selection of cheeses and salumi, plus two or three piatti del giorno, featuring plates like baked pastas and braised meats."

Picture
From Tablehopper's article, InVino should be opening around the end of August/beginning of September. Am I sensing a Labor Day weekend opening perhaps? They will be open everyday at 4:30pm except Mondays and look like they will be opening for lunch shortly after they open.

UPDATE: They recently added signage and a small lamp at the entrance. Got a peek inside one day and saw staff folding napkins and stocking the shelves! Looks like it will be opening very soon!

To read the rest of the article and see some shots of the interior check it out here!

Sparrow bar and kitchen to open on haight july 6th

Sparrow Bar and Kitchen is set to open July 6th in the old Bia's Restaurant and Wine Bar location at 1640 Haight Street. It will be a great addition to Haight's dining scene since it seems to be lacking a bit in dinner options (think Alembic and Magnolia, though they are both relatively recent to Haight as well). From the sneak peek photos from SF Magazine, the interiors look very inviting with wood stained tables and metal chairs. Sparrow also boasts a large 40 person back patio with heat lamps! The menu, created by Ola Fendert (of Oola in SOMA), will be based on seasonal fare including roasted baby beets, cured salmon, and caramel chocolate molten cake. We look forward to this new addition to the Haight and can't wait to welcome them to the 'neighborhood!'

Muni bus collided with a car Thursday evening near the Panhandle, sending the bus driver to the hospital, officials said. The 43-Masonic bus struck a car making an illegal U-turn near the intersection of Fell Street and Masonic Avenue at 6:20 p.m., Muni officials said. The bus then rolled into the park, where it eventually came to a stop. The driver was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with unspecified injuries. No one else was hurt.

BACON BACON FEATURED ON SNL

5/20/2013

Comments

As Bacon Bacon closed its' doors last Friday, it seems as though many media outlets have picked up the story, including SNL's Weekend Update. Guest star Amy Poehler mentioned the pork shop but sadly made no mention of Cole Valley.
Bacon Bacon, a beloved mobile food truck throughout the Bay Area, decided to open a pop-up restaurant in Cole Valley early last year. It had great promise with customers flocking to grab an early morning bacon and egg sandwich before their morning commute. But sadly, Bacon Bacon was forced to close its' doors on May 17th after its neighbors' complained about the overwhelming bacon aroma exuding from the restaurant. The complaints revealed some permit issues which also led to the restaurant having to shut down operations. A public hearing is scheduled to take place later this summer in order for Bacon Bacon to continue operations. But don't fear all your bacon fans! Bacon Bacon has re-opened its' mobile food truck and will continue to bring bacon to the streets of the Bay Area!

Also, Bacon Bacon has since teamed up with Brick & Mortar Music Hall and will begin serving lunch Monday through Friday 11am-2:30pm beginning June 24th. And 'once they find their groove' they will be opening up at 7:30am to offer coffee and breakfast. Check out their Brick & Mortar location here: http://www.baconbaconsf.com/the-cafe

McDonald's to add Drive-Thru?!

2/13/2013

Comments

Many thanks to our follower, @MeghanCArnold, we got some great information about the possibility of adding a drive-thru window at the McDonald's at Haight and Stanyan. Many neighbors heard about this new addition to the somewhat sketch Micky D's at the monthly community meeting at the Park Police Station last night. Mr. C.C. Yin of Vacaville, supposedly a new owner of the franchise, thinks that adding a drive-thru will improve the neighborhood. Seems as though the community fought for this same proposition some 20 years back and now it looks like it's on the table once again.

So what do you think neighbors? Do you want a drive-thru McDonald's in the Haight or is it just fine the way it is. For those against the addition, make your voice heard! Blast on social media even email (you can contact the owner directly and tell him what you think! Email Mr. C.C. Yin.

Police and FBI Raid on Page & Masonic

1/30/2013

Comments

"Federal and local law enforcement officers searched a home in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury neighborhood Tuesday as part of a renewed probe into the 1984 disappearance of 10-year-old Kevin Collins, but found little except apparent animal bones, authorities said." - The San Francisco Chronicle

On Tuesday afternoon, Police and FBI raided a house at the corner of Page and Masonic in search of the remains of a missing person case. Not sure what prompted this new investigation some 29 years after Kevin Collins disappeared.

After researching a bit about Kevin Collins (thanks to Wikipedia), I found out that he gained national attention as one of the first missing children to appear on milk cartons and national press like Newsweek. On February 10th 1984, Kevin left basketball practice early and waiting for the 43 Muni bus (Oak and Masonic) when he disappeared. Supposedly the man who used to live at the Page and Masonic corner was a key suspect in Kevin Collins case but authorities did not provide any more detail.

Hours of investigation and loud helicopters hovering overhead, it ended with police only finding animal remains in the backyard rather than the remains of the missing boy.
