Save Bacon Bacon

Bacon Bacon, our friendly (and yummy) food truck turned neighborhood shop, needs your help! Bacon Bacon might have to close their doors due to complaints by two neighbors near Bacon Bacon. The bacon-obsessed food shop is collecting signatures from neighborhoods and bacon lovers everywhere to submit to SF City Planning in hopes of keeping the storefront on Frederick Street open for all to enjoy.
"Two neighbors near Bacon Bacon want to see our doors closed. We need your support"
We here at ColeValleySF have always supported local businesses, whether a food shop or a hair salon. We believe in the importance of locally owned storefronts because it really helps make the Cole Valley neighborhood, at let's face it San Francisco as a whole, a unique place to live. Even in our small nook, we have seen many local businesses fail but have also seen new ones thrive! We hope the our neighbors (that's you Upper Haight and Ashbury Heights...and I guess Frederick's Knob too) will see the appreciation and need for local businesses. So signing the petition to keep Bacon Bacon is not just about helping Bacon Bacon thrive but also to support local storefronts in general.

Go to Bacon Bacon's website and sign the petition to KEEP BACON BACON IN THE HAIGHT! We love you guys and hope you stick around!

New AT&T Towers in Lower Haight

1/31/2013

Comments

New cell towers were installed in the Lower Haight (the rooftop of 255 Steiner to be exact) recently. Many AT&T customers, like myself, probably received this lovely message from them stating:

"AT&T is dedicated to keeping you connected where you live, work and play. We thought you'd be excited to hear that we've expanded coverage in San Francisco by building a new cell site...New towers are just part of our drive to give you clear calls, reliable connections and fast speeds."

While this brings exciting news to residents of the Lower Haight, not sure if Cole Valley and Upper Haight neighbors will benefit much. Have you seen a difference?

Police and FBI Raid on Page & Masonic

"Federal and local law enforcement officers searched a home in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury neighborhood Tuesday as part of a renewed probe into the 1984 disappearance of 10-year-old Kevin Collins, but found little except apparent animal bones, authorities said." - The San Francisco Chronicle

On Tuesday afternoon, Police and FBI raided a house at the corner of Page and Masonic in search of the remains of a missing person case. Not sure what prompted this new investigation some 29 years after Kevin Collins disappeared.

After researching a bit about Kevin Collins (thanks to Wikipedia), I found out that he gained national attention as one of the first missing children to appear on milk cartons and national press like Newsweek. On February 10th 1984, Kevin left basketball practice early and waiting for the 43 Muni bus (Oak and Masonic) when he disappeared. Supposedly the man who used to live at the Page and Masonic corner was a key suspect in Kevin Collins case but authorities did not provide any more detail.

Hours of investigation and loud helicopters hovering overhead, it ended with police only finding animal remains in the backyard rather than the remains of the missing boy.
